Joro spiders’ common prey families came out 10 to 25 percent apart from the native orb weavers’ in a gut-content DNA study of 356 spiders at 52 sites in Georgia and South Carolina — and where the Joros were present, the natives’ guts were not distinguishable from sites without them

The gut contents of 356 female orb weavers, collected in a single October and sequenced family by family, put the introduced spider's prey list statistically distinct in composition from its neighbours' while overlapping them on many prey families, and wider on a count the authors say likely reflects how many of each spider were caught. Native gut contents at Joro-occupied sites were not distinguishable from those at sites with no Joros.

Five of MOTHRA's eventual 30 mounts were working when the array was aimed at the Helix as a commissioning target. Almost nothing is visible at the centre of any of the 22 bow shocks it found, and the way their size collapses with distance puts a rough number on how long a fragment of a dead star lasts once the interstellar medium gets hold of it.
