Engineer's placemat sketch became America's first spy satellite

The placemat, the 600-mile figure and the real cover experiment all come from the National Reconnaissance Office's own history of Grab and its successor Poppy. No footnote in that pamphlet ties a statement about Grab to a specific record, two of its figure references point at the wrong launch, a third disagrees with its own text on a date, and its claim about being first is narrower than it looks in summary.
