Zyfer Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Odetics Inc. and leading provider of systems for network time and frequency synchronization, today announced that it has released a white paper describing the new military GPS SAASM technology for secure government communications and for control of weapons systems.

“Having a government-approved white paper on the subject, open for public release, is a major milestone,” said Hugo Fruehauf, Zyfer’s CEO and CTO. “The significance lies in the fact that this represents an urgently needed open knowledge base for users and suppliers to be able to respond to this government mandated GPS equipment deployment.”

SAASM (Selective Availability Anti-Spoof Module) is the new generation of military GPS navigation and timing functionality, enhancing the entire GPS infrastructure, covering user equipment security, crypto key management, and operational capabilities to meet the challenges of today’s tactical warfare scenarios. It also has applications in various communications networks that use GPS for synchronization.

Zyfer is proud to be an approved Host Applications Equipment (HAE) developer, imbedding GPS SAASM functionalities into its time/frequency generation and synchronization systems. Zyfer’s systems provide improved electronic data link security and simplify the security management process for a host of communications and command/control terminal applications.

The government mandates this technology to be implemented as of October 2002. In addition, many existing communications networks and command/control terminals require a SAASM-technology upgrade. Zyfer is ready to support the U.S. Government and its allies.
