ViaSat Inc. has been awarded an undefinitized $3.5 million delivery order from The Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command (SPAWAR), San Diego, to begin development of specifications for an Airborne Networking Waveform (ANW) for the Multifunctional Information Distribution System (MIDS) Joint Tactical Radio System (JTRS).
This ANW task will begin implementing Tactical Targeting Networking Technology (TTNT) into MIDS JTRS. TTNT is an Internet Protocol (IP) based, high-speed, ad hoc network designed to enable the U.S. military to quickly locate moving and time-critical targets.
ViaSat will be working with Data Link Solutions, a joint venture of BAe Systems and Rockwell Collins, in an Integrated Product Team (IPT) environment to jointly develop and integrate the ANW into MIDS JTRS.
ViaSat has also received a delivery order in excess of $3.3 million as a final add-on to the Lot 6 award announced September 21, 2005. This procurement was for MIDS LVT(2) ground-based Low Volume Terminals and spares. The final add-on brings the total Lot 6 delivery order value to more than $74 million, the largest MIDS order received by ViaSat for a MIDS lot procurement.
ViaSat is one of two U.S. government-qualified manufacturers of Link-16 MIDS LVT terminals, part of a secure, jam-resistant tactical radio system that collects data from many sources and displays an electronic overview of the battlefield. ViaSat has delivered more than 700 MIDS terminals to SPAWAR for the U.S. Navy, U.S. Air Force, U.S. Army and coalition customers.
