Telenor Satellite Services, a subsidiary of Telenor of Norway, last Friday (August 20) announced that it has purchased GMPCS Personal Communications, based in Pompano Beach, Florida.
Founded in 1996, GMPCS Personal Communications is a full service provider of global mobile personal communications via satellite.
The company is a supplier of equipment, accessories, and value-added solutions and serves many Fortune 500 and Global 1000 corporations. The company realized revenues in excess of $23 million in 2003, a growth of more than 60 percent over 2002 figures.
GMPCS will continue its operations as a wholly owned subsidiary of Telenor Satellite Services Holdings, the holding company for all of Telenor Satellite Services’ United States business operations.
“GMPCS Personal Communications is a world leader in the provision of turnkey mobile satellite solutions to industry and individuals,” said Tore Hilde, chief executive officer of Telenor Satellite Services.
“Through its network of global alliances, GMPCS leverages the strength of its employees, partners and some of the world’s largest and most respected communications networks, to provide its customers with the best in quality, value and innovation.”
“GMPCS’s mission and business strategy are a natural fit with Telenor Satellite Services and our business and growth strategy.”
“GMPCS has an established reputation throughout the industry and markets it serves. This name recognition is one of the major reasons that Telenor wanted to bring GMPCS into its business family,” said Craig Van Wagner, president and chief executive officer of GMPCS.
GMPCS currently has approximately 40 employees including Sales, Marketing, Technical Support, Accounting, Customer Support and Equipment Management.
