Telenor Satellite Services today announced that it is the first satellite communications provider in the United States to receive U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) approval to offer a full range of broadband services over the AMOS 2 satellite.
The FCC approval grants Telenor authority to use extended Ku-band frequencies over AMOS 2 from the company’s Southbury, Connecticut teleport.
With this new license, Telenor now offers advanced communications services via the AMOS 2 satellite between the Middle East and the United States, including delivery of cost-effective VSAT networks and high-power broadband services suitable for Internet service and content providers.
Additionally, future business opportunities made possible via the AMOS 2 satellite will incorporate private and secure distribution for cable and satellite services.
“This FCC approval clears the way for Telenor to continue to expand its portfolio of high-powered broadband and Internet-based services via satellite between the United States and the Middle East,” said Tore Hilde, chief executive officer of Telenor Satellite Service.
AMOS 2, operated by Spacecom Satellite Communications Services, Ltd. And launched in December 2003, provides high-quality broadcasting and communications service capabilities between Europe, the Middle East, and the east coast of the United States, creating a vital link from the Middle East to the US-based IP backbone for advanced broadband services.
