Fokker Space signed an Authorization To Proceed (ATP) with TECSTAR Inc. on November 18 for six solar panels in support of Atlantic Bird, a satellite program to be built by Alenia Aerospazio for Eutelsat Telecommunications.
This program represents a major milestone in the use of satellite solar power in Europe. Atlantic Bird is the first European application of TECSTAR¿s Cascade multijunction solar cell technology.
“We selected Tecstar for this program not only on the quality and price of its products, but because their open attitude and quick turn-around time for all our questions has been very good,” said Michel Hamers, program director for Atlantic Bird.
“TECSTAR¿s responsiveness was a great help to us in securing this program. I’m looking forward to working with Tecstar in this program and the others which will certainly follow,” added Hamers.
“Atlantic Bird represents a significant step for TECSTAR in the European marketplace,” confirms David M. Van Buren, President and CEO of TECSTAR Inc. “We are pleased that our Cascade technology will fly on the panels for this major European satellite program and look forward to working with Fokker to ensure its success.”
