Hughes Network Systems announced Friday it is introducing a new broadband satellite platform, the HX System, for smaller networks that provides high-quality service and employs the most efficient implementation of the DVB-S2 industry standard with adaptive coding and modulation.
The HX System also complies with IP-over-satellite standards approved by TIA for the global satellite industry in North America, as well as ETSI and ITU in Europe.
The HX System utilizes advanced bandwidth management techniques, enabling operators to provide their customers with a high-quality service while maximizing satellite efficiency.
Optimized for smaller networks, the HX design builds upon the foundation of Hughes broadband satellite technology, with more than 900,000 terminals shipped worldwide. The system supports high uplink channel rates of up to 3.2 megabits per second, enabling operators to provide bandwidth intensive applications such as:
– cellular backhaul;
– maritime;
– upstream oil and gas exploration, and
– video conferencing.
The system’s advanced bandwidth management features give operators the ability to efficiently allocate satellite bandwidth as a virtual pool.
Instead of dedicating bandwidth to specific users, HX provides what technicians call an “IP cloud in the sky.” If a customer or group of terminals is not fully utilizing their allocated bandwidth, HX reallocates this bandwidth to other users, while assuring that bandwidth will be available when needed.
HX has an integrated set of availability features which yield unsurpassed network availability. The coding and modulation of the downlink channels is dynamically changed based on link conditions, as is the uplink channel coding. In addition, the remote terminals can dynamically adjust their uplink power for improved link availability.
