Alcatel Space announced the signature of a contract to build and deliver, in orbit, a new telecommunications satellite for WORLDSAT, LLC, a SES GLOBAL company. This advanced, high-powered hybrid C/Ku-band satellite, named WORLDSAT-3, will operate over the pacific region.
The satellite’s Ku-band payload has been designed to meet the particular requirements of Connexion by Boeing, WORLDSAT’s key strategic customer.
The in-orbit handover of the satellite will occur by end of 2005. WORLDSAT-3 will weigh about 5,000 kg at launch, with beginning-of-life electrical power of 13 kW, and a design life exceeding 15 years.
Alcatel Space has also delivered the payload for the AM11 satellite to Russian company NPO-PM, prime contractor for the Express AM satellites deployed by national operator Russian Satellite Communications Company (RSCC).
This is the seventh payload that Alcatel Space has delivered to NPO-PM. Express AM11 is slated for launch at the beginning of the second quarter 2004 on a Proton rocket.
