ViaSat has been selected by Kongsberg Satellite Services (KSAT) of Tromso, Norway to provide a 7.3-meter X-band receive and S-band Telemetry, Tracking & Command (TT&C) antenna system.

The antenna system is part of a new KSAT ground station, called TrollSat, that is under development at 72 degrees S 2 degrees E in Antarctica and is expected to begin operation in February, 2006.

The value of the contract is approximately $2.2 million.

Kongsberg Satellite Services is a Norwegian enterprise providing TT&C, global data dump, and operational Earth Observation services based on data from polar orbiting satellites.

KSAT recently signed a contract with Orbimage of Virginia, USA for data download and control of the OrbView-5 (Nextview 2) satellite, which is expected to launch in 2007.

The company already operates two ground stations; the Tromso Station at 69 degrees 39’N 18 degrees 56’E and Svalbard Satellite Station (SvalSat) at 78 degrees 15’N 15 degrees 80’E.
