T-Systems and Luxembourg based SATLYNX have signed an agreement for the provision of broadband access over satellite. This agreement enables T-Systems to offer SATLYNX two-way-broadband connections for efficient satellite services to be used for example for communications networks of international companies.
As satellite communications provide a borderless Europe-wide reach, they appear as the appropriate complementary broadband infrastructure for fixed networks. Based on an innovative and worldwide proven and reliable technology, predominantly terrestrial networks can be completed by satellite networks or partial solutions.
For the BtoB (business-to-business) market, interactive satellite communications are playing an increasing role.
Particularly in rural or remote regions with no internet broadband access, satellite networks have an important function to bridge Europe’s “digital divide”. Thus, satellite networks support a central goal of EU’s ongoing broadband action programme “eEurope 2005”.
SATLYNX is a joint venture owned by SES GLOBAL and Gilat Satellite Networks based in Luxembourg. It is expected that the Alcatel subsidiaries Alcatel Space and SkyBridge will join soon as a third shareholder.
