This is the main question that will be asked at the upcoming 5th ISU Annual International Symposium to be held in Strasbourg, France from 24 to 26 May 2000.
The Symposium will be a unique opportunity to discuss and debate, from very different viewpoints, all the key common issues shared by the space transportation sector in the coming years and draw conclusions about future directions and trends.
Three unique features will underscore this year’s Symposium.
First, it will provide an in-depth overview and discussion of the full range of commercial, policy and regulatory issues impacting the development of space transportation.
Second, it will bring together representatives from developers, providers and operators of space transportation systems; regulatory bodies; users of the space transportation infrastructure, including users in emerging application fields such as remote sensing and tourism; the finance and insurance sectors, as well as independent experts in policy and market analysis.
Third, through the unique outreach of ISU, the broad range of players involved in the launch industry can benefit from quality interactions with industry leaders that is essential to further cultivate opportunities, develop new partnership prospects and enhance corporate profile.
To help the discussions and initiate the debates, the following issues will be considered during the Symposium sessions:
- The needs of future markets – from the users’ and the launch service providers’ perspectives;
- The proper mix between reusable and expendable space transportation systems in the future launch market, and the direction the technology is headed towards;
- The changes needed in the legal frameworks;
- The appropriate roles of government in future space transportation systems.
The ISU Symposium will be the place for the space transportation market leaders to put into perspective a forward-looking approach that promotes international dialogue on the many issues facing the development of this sector.
