ILC’s MaxView network control software with integrated carrier monitoring system (MaxView CMS) has been selected by South Africa’s telecom operator Telkom SA Limited, to consolidate monitor and control of national satellite earth stations.

The new satellite Network Element Management System (NEMS) will add momentum to Telkom’s objective of centrally managing its satellite voice, video, data, Internet and e-Commerce services, from its National Network Operations Centre (NNOC) in Centurion, Gauteng.

Telkom’s satellite network, which has expanded in size, scope and complexity, requires the MaxView Satellite NEMS with integrated CMS to improve performance, provide optimum coverage and network flexibility.

ILC’s MaxView will manage Telkom’s seven satellite uplink/downlink facilities strategically located throughout South Africa, which host multiple satellite antennas ranging in sizes from 4.6m to 32m and include thousands of network elements from various manufacturers.

“The implications for improving service delivery are immense when you consider the extensive terrestrial and satellite network that Telkom currently manages. This is yet another demonstration of Telkom’s capability to deliver network services with manageability at a world class level,” says Reuben September, Telkom’s Chief Technical Officer.

“ILC’s MaxView system will allow immediate monitoring opportunities and will enable proactive responses that will ensure that our services are always up.”

Telkom will use MaxView to monitor the network, identify and remedy problems before service is interrupted. MaxView CMS will allow Telkom to proactively monitor satellite services, identifying anomalies and policing Telkom’s leased satellite bandwidth.

MaxView will optimize Telkom’s operations by automating faultfinding, reducing downtime and managing the overall health of the network.

“ILC’s MaxView software facilitates quick installation and upgrades because of its smart approach to new equipment integration,” says Telequip Manager Gert Zaayman.

Integrator Telequip will be installing MaxView at all seven South African earth stations. Installations commenced in early August 2004 and completed implementation is targeted for the end of December 2004.

“ILC is proud to deliver a satellite network management system of this size to the largest telco in Africa,” says ILC Chief Executive Officer Richard Graham.

“Our relationship with Telkom and Telequip marks a milestone in our company’s international growth and supports our goals to continually expand our EMEA business.”
