Telenor Satellite Services announced Tuesday that it recently received approval from the Brazilian government to begin offering Inmarsat satellite services directly to service providers and their customers throughout Brazil.
The official announcement appeared in the Diario Oficial da Uniao, the official government record publication of the Brazilian government on July 25th.
This announcement successfully completes a negotiations process begun in 2002 with Inmarsat, Embratel, and the Brazilian government to authorize Telenor to sell directly to service providers and their customers in Brazil. Prior to this approval, Telenor Satellite Services was able to sell Inmarsat service in country only through state-sponsored service provider Embratel.
“Telenor is extremely pleased with the Brazilian government’s action to approve Telenor as a provider of Inmarsat services in Brazil,” said Tore Hilde, chief executive officer of Telenor Satellite Services.
“Now, we can offer our complete portfolio of ‘on demand’ Inmarsat satellite services to service providers in Brazil and their customers needing reliable communications on land, at sea, and while in flight.”
To meet the anticipated sales growth in Brazil, Telenor has already established an office in Rio de Janeiro.
