Space Imaging, the world’s leading provider of Earth imagery and related services to commercial and government markets, announced today that it has restructured its regional sales channel in Brazil, signing contracts with four Brazilian companies – Engesat, GisPlan, Infostrata and Threetek.
This is the first formal step toward the establishment of a Space Imaging Regional Affiliate in Brazil that will manage the collection and distribution of imagery and products from Space Imaging’s IKONOS satellite.
By refocusing it sales and marketing efforts on four strong distributors, Space Imaging will eliminate internal competition, and communicate more clearly with its customers across Brazil.
Engesatsupplies IKONOS imagery to a variety of clients, including state and municipal governments. GisPlan is a highly skilled cartographic services company that works closely with federal government and military customers. Infostrata brings solid experience in imagery-based Internet and Intranet application development, and has extensive knowledge in mining, transportation, and infrastructure. Threetek is Brazil’s leader in the development of imagery applications for the oil and gas industry.
“We have strengthened our relationship with four of the most technologically advanced and innovative geographic information companies in South America,” said William Aymard, Space Imaging’s territory sales director for Latin America.
“Each company has experience in a broad range of geographic data applications, and specific expertise in at least one of our core market sectors. Together, we will increase demand for IKONOS satellite imagery, and expose a broader population to the numerous applications and advantages of utilizing high-resolution satellite imagery.”
Space Imaging’s Brazilian subsidiary, Space Imaging do Brasil, is working to establish a Brazilian Regional Affiliate that will operate a Regional Operations Center (ROC) that is capable of tasking the IKONOS satellite, processing imagery, and distributing imagery products in Brazil, via the existing sales channel.
“Maintaining an effective, streamlined, and visible sales channel in Brazil is critical to this effort,” said Nisso Cohen, Space Imaging’s vice-president for Latin America. “Eventually, our Regional Affiliate will work with these resellers to serve our Brazilian customers even better. We are proud to be associated with Engesat, GisPlan, Infostrata, and Threetek at this critical stage in the expansion of our worldwide network.”
Space Imaging launched the world’s first one-meter resolution, commercial earth imaging satellite, IKONOS, on Sept. 24, 1999. Other products are produced from the Indian Remote Sensing satellites, U.S. Landsat; RADARSAT and the European Space Agency’s ERS satellites. Space Imaging also delivers aerial-derived imagery products collected by its own Digital Airborne Imaging System (DAIS-1(tm)).
