Northrop Grumman’s Integrated Systems and Aerostructures (ISA) sector has received a contract from Construcciones Aeronauticas SA (CASA) for the design and manufacture of tooling and production of eight launch vehicle composite cones. The one-year contract is valued at $1.5 million.
ISA’s Aerostructures business area in Milledgeville, Ga., will manufacture the launch vehicle nose cones on its advanced TOW placement machine which allows efficient and cost effective lay-up of composite materials in highly contoured shapes.
The Milledgeville site will also have responsibility for design and production of the tooling because of its strong experience in implementing producible designs using TOW placement.
“The experience we gain from this contract will strengthen our nacelle manufacturing capabilities, helping to position us for continued growth,” said Vern Broomall, vice president-Business Development and Nacelles Products for Aerostructures.
