Alternative System Concepts, Inc., a developer of advanced electronic design automation (EDA) software for the semiconductor industry, today announced that it has been approved for a 2nd phase of funding from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA).
ASC is using these funds to complete development of its Virtual Triple Modular Redundancy (VTMR) technology for space applications.
The new electronic design technology reduces power usage, as well as electronic component area usage, which saves weight and is a significant benefit for space applications.
With VTMR technology in an electronic component design flow, engineers can design radiation-hardened components with reduced area and power.
Using the technology is a less expensive alternative to traditional rad-hard component design methods, and promises to lower costs and improve the reliability of products produced for the space, automotive, aircraft and medical industries.
“Our company is committed to advanced technology development to reduce design cost and shorten time to market,” said Jake Karrfalt, president and chief executive officer at Alternative System Concepts.
“We are excited about our collaboration with the MDA SBIR Program because it has enabled us to explore a high-risk idea and develop it into a technology breakthrough. We are extremely optimistic that this will lead to additional advances in our industry.”
The contract is co-sponsored by the Missile Defense Agency’s (MDA) Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Program and managed by the U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command (Huntsville, AL).
