Mobile Satellite Ventures (MSV) has announced that it has acquired the entire patent portfolio of one of the original developers of the hybrid satellite-terrestrial system concept, Celsat.

The Celsat patents include thirteen granted, and two additional pending, patents with issue dates as early as 1991.

The Celsat patents further strengthen MSV’s existing ATC patent portfolio in the areas of CDMA architecture and radio resource management.

These patents join MSV’s extensive and rapidly growing patent portfolio, including four omnibus patents of nearly 600 allowed claims.

As previously announced, after years of invention and investment, MSV’s comprehensive patent portfolio is emerging from the pipeline.

“With the addition of the Celsat patents, MSV’s leadership role and strategic advantage is further solidified,” said Peter D. Karabinis, chief technical officer of MSV.

“For over 5 years, MSV has been building a portfolio of ATC-related intellectual property, by acquisition and by internal development.

“This portfolio includes almost 20 issued US patents, and almost 70 pending US patent applications directed to the space segment, the terrestrial segment and the wireless terminals of an ATC network. We believe our portfolio far eclipses any other potential ATC portfolio both in breadth and in depth.”
