MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates announced Thursday satellite information agreements totaling about $5.6 million CDN. MDA is providing a U.S. government agency repeat customer with satellite imagery.

In addition, Norway has pre-purchased RADARSAT-1 information until 2006. This is an extension of a RADARSAT-2 agreement which was signed in January 2003.

“Reliable long-term continuity of information is essential for operational use. With this RADARSAT agreement, Norwegian government users will have fast access to RADARSAT information for the next ten years,” stated Per Erik Skrovseth, Head of the Norwegian Space Centre’s Earth Observation Department.

Norway’s Oil Spill Detection, Ship Detection, and Ice Mapping Services rely extensively on RADARSAT-1. Critical information is extracted from the radar data and provided to clients within one to two hours after acquisition.
