PRC Inc., a subsidiary of Litton Industries, was awarded a contract by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to support NASA’s Sounding Rocket (NSROC) Program.

The work to be performed by Litton PRC under the NSROC contract includes oversight of scientific and experimental payloads to include collection and evaluation of research data. PRC will create a launch services management information system as well as introduce knowledge-based engineering tools to assist in pre-launch planning and post-launch data analysis.

Under the performance-based, cost-plus-award and incentive fee contract, services will be provided on an indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity (ID/IQ) basis beginning Feb. 1, 1999. Litton PRC will provide services and support for the NSROC Program including designing, fabricating, integrating, testing and performing mission operations for sounding rocket missions.

The work will be performed at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center’s Wallops Flight Facility, Wallops Island, Va., as well as various launch locations worldwide in support of Wallops projects.

The basic contract is for four years with two three-year options. The contract’s minimum ID/IQ potential value for the four-year basic contract is $11.9 million, and the potential maximum for the basic contract period is $211.8 million. In addition, if all options are exercised, the potential minimum value is $31.9 million and the potential total contract value is $572.5 million.

“This contract demonstrates NASA’s confidence that PRC can provide the requisite services and support to maintain NASA’s rigorous launch schedule of its highly successful Sounding Rocket Program,” said Alden V. Munson, Jr., Litton senior vice president and group executive of Litton’s Information Systems Group (ISG). PRC reports to Litton ISG.

“This new contract vehicle consolidates several previous service and supply contracts and other work supporting NASA’s Sounding Rocket Program, and we have the expertise and resources to ensure the continued success of the program,” Munson concluded.

Litton is a leader in worldwide technology markets for advanced electronic, defense, and information systems, and is a major designer and builder of surface combatant ships for the U.S. Navy and allied nations.
