In-Systcom announced last Thursday (August 19) that it has completed deployment of their In-Suite Internet access, a new service for SeaLynx.
According to Wil Riner, Sr., Chairman and CEO, the delivery of Internet access to the cruise ship cabin presented a number of unique challenges, the least of which was available bandwidth, and the ability to make practical use of a web page on a 12-inch or 14-inch TV.
“The new module was written from the ground up to optimize satellite bandwidth through optimized ship wide caching, and the creation of a real time engine to re-purpose certain aspects of each web page so that we could redraw the pages with larger text, using color combinations that are TV friendly,” added Mr. Riner.
“The SeaLynx system is among the first to bring Internet access directly to the passenger’s suite, thus presenting a unique marketing opportunity to In-Systcom for their SeaLynx product,” stated Peter DeMilio, President of In-Systcom.
Most cruise ships make available to their passengers an Internet/Cyber Cafe to meet their Internet access needs. This forces the passengers to leave their cabins and often wait in line for an open workstation, instead of enjoying other amenities offered by the ship.
The Internet Access component of SeaLynx is offered to passengers based upon pricing models specific to each cruise line and offers unlimited browsing during the entire cruise duration.
