EMS Technologies announced today the November 2001 installation of its Aeronautical Data Terminal (ADT-1000) on a U.S. military aircraft, representing the first sale of EMS’s high-speed data terminals to the defense sector. Following the initial installation, EMS delivered subsequent ADT-1000 units in 2001.

“EMS Technologies is the demonstrated leader in the development and supply of high-speed data communications equipment that brings e-mail and Internet capability to the aircraft cabin.

“The ADT-1000 is the first high-speed data terminal available to the aviation industry, and works with the new Swift64 Mobile ISDN Service from INMARSAT,” said Dr. Neil Mackay, senior vice president and general manager of EMS Technologies’ SATCOM Division.

“Due to a continued interest from various segments of the military, EMS is pursuing a number of opportunities for further installations directly benefiting U.S. defense operations.”

EMS’ ADT-1000 is a dual channel, high-speed data solution capable of bi-directional 128Kb/s (ISDN) throughput over the INMARSAT Global Area Network.

ADT-1000-equipped military aircraft allows users to access e-mail and the Internet from anywhere in the world, over 50 times faster than previously available with existing satcom systems.

EMS Technologies is a leading innovator in the design and manufacture of wireless and satellite solutions. Headquartered in Atlanta, the company employs 2,000 people worldwide with manufacturing facilities in Atlanta, Montreal, Ottawa and Brazil.
