NASA Unveils Global Exploration Strategy And Lunar Architecture

NASA on Monday unveiled the initial elements of the Global Exploration Strategy and a proposed U.S. lunar architecture, two critical tools for achieving the nation's vision of returning humans to the moon. Using such an outpost, NASA can learn to use the moon's natural resources to live off the land, make preparations for a journey to Mars, conduct a wide range of scientific investigations and encourage international participation.

    Opportunity is healthy and making progress imaging "Victoria Crater." Sol 1002 began with a short drive to the edge of "Cape St. Mary" in order to take better images of the northeast side of "Cape Verde." On Sols 1005 and 1006 (Nov. 21 and 22, 2006), Opportunity participated in efforts to recover communications with NASA's Mars Global Surveyor orbiter, which had not communicated with Earth for more than two weeks at that point.

    Romanian Charged Over NASA Hacking

    A 26-year-old Romanian man has been charged with hacking into the computers of the NASA space agency, police in Bucharest said on Saturday. Victor Faur, from Arad in western Romania, is accused by authorities in the United States of causing NASA damages amounting to 1.3 million dollars (almost 1 million euros). The US alerted Romanian police in July to the fact that the security of NASA's servers had been breached by an unknown person in Romania.

    Russia To Adjust ISS Orbit On NASA Request To Host US Shuttle

    Russia's Mission Control will adjust the International Space Station's orbit on NASA's request, to prepare for the docking of a U.S. space shuttle, a space agency official said Friday. "On the request of NASA, the ISS orbit will be raised on December 5, at 00.36 Moscow time [9.36 p.m. GMT, December 4]," Federal Space Agency spokesman Igor Panarin said.
