Falcon 1 Soars From Pad But Telemetry Lost At Five Minutes Plus: First Burn Successful Los Angeles CA (SPX) Mar 20, 2007 In a day of high launch campaign drama Space X launched it's Falcon 1 Test Vehicle Two. After an initial nominal flight telemetry was lost at five minutes into the flight. The launch came after the first attempt was shutdown in the final seconds by computers. A quick poll later and it was decided to make another attempt today. Full details on the suspected second stage flight failure will be provided as details come to hand ... The COTS Enigma Honolulu HI (SPX) Jan 16, 2007 NASA's Commercial Orbital Transportation Services program has been widely hailed by the alt.space community as a breakthrough in US launch policy, but the numbers just don't add up. This project will be too late and too little to make a significant contribution to closing the post-Shuttle ISS supply gap - except perhaps as a slush fund to cover cost overruns in Orion/Ares ... more Space X To Try Again With Same Day Launch Reset: Details Pending Los Angeles CA (SPX) Mar 20, 2007 The Space X Falcon 1 test vehicle 2 has failed to launch from it's Pacific ocean atoll launch pad on it's first attempt today. But now in a gutsy move, the Space X launch campaign managers have decided to try again today for another launch attempt. The launch window time is open from 00:28 to 01:14 UTC - (5:28-6:14 PT). The clock is being reset to T minus 11 minutes. Fueling is being partly off loaded before being reloaded for the another possible attempt today. The launch vehicle powered up without incident and then shutdown safely with the Falcon 1 in one piece looking pretty good. Mission managers are looking at the situation. However, the fact that the vehicle did ignite and then safely shut down without exploding speaks well for the design and underlying launch campaign processes The launch shutdown occurred when the countdown sequencer determined that the pressure in the main engine chamber was below the redline limit ... Space X To Try Again With Same Day Launch Reset Washington (AFP) March 20, 2007 Private satellite carrier SpaceX will launch its Falcon 1 rocket into space from the Marshall Islands Tuesday, nearly a year after its first attempt failed, the company said in a statement. "The flight readiness review conducted shows all systems are 'go' for a launch attempt but the launch could be delayed if we have even the tiniest concern," chief executive Elon Musk said in the statement ... Space-X Falcon-1 Terminal Count Aborted: Today's Launch Attempt Scrubbed - Another Attempt Tomorrow Los Angeles CA (SPX) Mar 19, 2007 The Falcon-1 flight team reported 2 minutes before launch that the terminal countdown process was being automatically aborted by the countdown sequencer. The Falcon-1 vehicle was placed under manual control and standard launch abort procedures were then followed. A scrub for the day was eventually called after initial attempts to trouble shoot a suspected minor communications problem took longer than the launch window allowed for. The next launch attempt is expected to occur tomorrow. Prior to today's launch Space-X CEO Elon Musk had reported in his most recent public status report that the launch would be postponed if there was even the tiniest concern." Since this is not used during the static fire, we have decided to push forward with that test in order to acquire valuable data on engine ignition, pad acoustics, and the overall system response.
