Arianespace announced that its Ariane 5 launch vehicle will orbit the Intelsat-11 satellite for Intelsat, as well as Horizons-2 for the Horizons Satellite LLC joint venture of Intelsat and Japan"s JSAT.
These two new payloads will be lofted from the Guiana Space Center during the third quarter of 2007. To date, Arianespace has launched 38 payloads for Intelsat, while the most recent Ariane 5 mission for JSAT carried the company"s JCSAT-10 platform last August.
Both Intelsat-11 and Horizons-2 are based on Orbital Science"s STAR satellite platform. Intelsat-11 will provide direct-to-home broadcasting and data networking services to Latin America; while Horizons-2 is to serve as a rely for everything from digital video, high-definition television and IP-based content distribution networks to broadband Internet and satellite news services in the continental U.S., Caribbean and parts of Canada.
