Terma, BAE continue noise-reduction effort for pilot helmets by Richard Tomkins Lystrup, Denmark (UPI) Oct 17, 2016
Terma A/S and BAE Systems are to continue and intensify development of noise-reduction technology for military pilot helmets. The decision comes after a design review of Terma's 3D-Audio/Active Noise Reduction technology with BAE Systems' Striker II Helmet Mounted Display. "Airborne or acoustically transmitted noise is always present in aircraft, but measures can be taken to reduce it," Terma said. "Terma's ANR solution is highly adaptable and supports even the noisiest aircraft platforms." Terma said its 3D-Audio technology helps pilots deal with threat warnings within a complete 360-degree sphere of the aircraft. It alerts them from the exact direction of the danger and also when a threat changes path, particularly important in the case of missile threats. No schedule for development of a prototype was given.
