In a significant development for the Internet of Things (IoT) industry, Quectel Wireless Solutions, a developer of IoT solutions, has announced the successful certification of its novel CC660D-LS module for use on the Skylo network. This module, distinguished as the first to receive such certification from Skylo, is set to revolutionize IoT connectivity.

Designed to facilitate robust two-way satellite communication, the CC660D-LS module represents a significant leap in IoT technology. This certification by Skylo, a leading non-terrestrial network (NTN) service provider, marks a new era in IoT-NTN connectivity, enabling seamless integration for any standard device equipped with the module and an unobstructed view of the sky.

Quectel's CC660D-LS module is tailored to provide reliable and efficient communication in challenging environments. This innovation is crucial for businesses and organizations operating in remote areas, ensuring secure and dependable data transmission. The module's diverse connectivity options, including L-band, S-band, and Band 23, along with support for 3GPP Release 17 IoT-NTN connections, underscore its advanced capabilities.

Norbert Muhrer, President and CSO at Quectel Wireless Solutions, expressed his enthusiasm about the collaboration with Skylo: "We are delighted that Skylo has certified our NTN Satellite Communication Module for its network. This certification reflects our commitment to delivering high-quality satellite communication solutions to our customers worldwide. By collaborating with Skylo, we enable businesses to unlock new opportunities and achieve their IoT goals, regardless of where they are located."

Skylo's rigorous certification process, which includes adherence to 3GPP Release-17 standards and Skylo's Standards Plus qualifications, ensures that the CC660D-LS module meets the highest quality and performance criteria. Skylo's global network coverage is a critical factor in maintaining connectivity for IoT devices in areas lacking terrestrial infrastructure.

Dr. Andrew Nuttall, CTO and Co-Founder of Skylo, commented on the partnership: "We are excited to welcome Quectel's CC660D-LS module to our ecosystem of certified devices. This certification is a testament to our commitment to providing the most reliable and expansive satellite-based IoT connectivity. By partnering with industry leaders like Quectel, we empower device manufacturers of all types to expand their IoT applications, add additional revenue streams, and deliver a superior customer experience that requires no change in user behavior."

The CC660D-LS module is apt for various applications, including asset tracking, fleet management, agriculture, and maritime operations. Its compact design and low-power consumption make it ideal for battery-powered IoT devices requiring long-term connectivity.

Security is a paramount concern in IoT, and Quectel addresses this by embedding leading industry practices and standards in product architecture and software development. This approach includes collaboration with third-party independent test houses and the incorporation of security practices like generating Software Bill of Materials (SBOMs) and Vulnerability Exploitability eXchange (VEX) files, as well as performing firmware binary analysis throughout the software development lifecycle.

For IoT developers, Quectel simplifies the development process by offering pre-certification services and compatible antennas like the YECN028AA and YFCA011AA. This comprehensive support not only reduces costs and time-to-market but also enhances the connectivity and deployment efficiency of their IoT solutions.
