Rotary Breaks Ground On Mojave Rocket Plant
Mojave, CA, June 18, 1998 - Rotary Rocket Company, developers of the innovative "Roton," a fully reusable piloted space vehicle, announced today that they will be breaking ground on a new 2.5 acre complex at Mojave Airport. The company will construct a $5.5 million vehicle manufacturing and flight operations facility providing approximately 45,000 square feet of vehicle assembly and office buildings. Rotary Rocket Company expects to eventually employ up to 100 people at the new facility, offering a wide range of employment opportunities to people in the area. The facility is expected to be completed and operational by Q1/1999 "We are thrilled to begin construction on our new facility at Mojave Airport," said Gary C. Hudson, Rotary Rocket Company CEO. "We are confident that we can receive the high-tech specialist support we need from the aerospace industry in the Mojave area." Mr. Hudson went on to add "When we couple this with the outstanding support we have already received from the people and supervisors of Kern County, we are very optimistic about our future here." "It's exciting to see us continue to attract cutting-edge technology companies such as the Rotary Rocket Company," exclaimed Kern County Supervisor Steve Perez. "I know residents of Mojave and East Kern are eager to have this facility and to watch the development of Rotary Rocket Company's new space vehicle." "We're looking forward to breaking ground on Rotary Rocket Company's new facility," stated Dan Sabovich, General Manager of Mojave Airport. "They've been a great tenant and are a welcome addition to the Mojave Airport." "The Aerospace industry has been a mainstay in East Kern for over fifty years," said Greg Whitney, KEDC president. "Rotary Rocket Company's decision to locate here is clear evidence that this high tech industry will continue to play an important role in Kern's economy." "KEDC has been an outstanding partner for us," said Geri Rice, Administrative Manager at Rotary Rocket Company. "They have assisted us with everything from real estate information all the way through to coordinating key permits with the County." She went on to say that the county's economic incentive program was a welcome gesture and one that was greatly appreciated by the company. Rotary Rocket Company, founded to develop space vehicles that can provide low cost human access to space, has their corporate headquarters in Redwood Shores, California. The company will be using the Mojave facility to develop and operate the Roton fully reusable piloted space vehicle. The Roton will be capable of flying to space and returning to Earth virtually on a daily basis at a cost much lower than any existing or currently planned space vehicle. It is envisaged that, initially, the Roton will be used to deliver constellations of telecommunications satellites to Low Earth Orbit.

City of Industry - June 18, 1998 - TecStar has shipped the last four of seventeen solar panels to the Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) for the Interim Control Module (ICM) program. In total, TecStar provided one prototype panel for qualification testing and sixteen flight solar panels for the Navy module. |
