A woman drowned in northern Romania, authorities said Monday, bringing to six the death toll from floods that have submerged parts of the country for the past week. Authorities in the northern department of Suceava found the body of the 54-year-old woman who was swept by waters when she was leading her cows back home from pasture, a spokesman for the emergency situations inspectorate said. Rescuers had been searching for her since Saturday. On Monday, over 1,500 homes and more that 9,500 hectares of pastures, forests and farmlands were flooded in 73 villages and towns across the country. Last week, the floods claimed the lives of five people. Road and railway traffic were disrupted and over 500 people evacuated during over the weekend. Authorities issued top-level flood warnings in two northern departments until Tuesday afternoon.
