Plextek, renowned for its expertise in low Size, Weight, and Power (SWaP) sensing technology, has unveiled an important advancement in space operations with its mmWave radar technology, detailed in the newly published paper "Sensing in Space." This innovative technology is designed to enhance the safety and dependability of satellite and space mission operations.

Plextek's mmWave radar provides precise detection capabilities, recognizing objects as small as a millimeter up to large inactive satellites. Its robust performance shines under challenging conditions such as eclipses, direct sunlight, or dust-covered lunar surfaces where other sensors may struggle.

Richard Jacklin, Commercial Lead at Plextek, emphasized the tailored approach the company takes for each mission. "There is no one-size-fits-all solution when it comes to sensing in space. Our team works closely with space missions to determine the suitability of mmWave radar technology and identify the optimal radio configuration, antenna design, interfacing software, and security measures to meet performance and SWaP-C goals."

Ahead of its publication, Jacklin previewed sections of the paper at the CONFERS 7th Annual Global Satellite Servicing Forum and Exhibition in Arlington, VA, sparking industry dialogue about future space technologies.
