Maxar secures $35M in APAC geospatial tasking contracts

Maxar Intelligence has announced the acquisition of $35 million in new contracts from two government clients in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region. These agreements highlight Maxar's capabilities in delivering advanced geospatial insights through innovative technologies.

The contracts, part of Maxar's Direct Access Program (DAP), mark significant milestones for the company. They include the first APAC purchase of direct access to 30 cm-class WorldView Legion imagery and the region's debut use of Maxar's virtual constellation for direct tasking of ultra-high-resolution synthetic aperture radar (SAR) imagery from Umbra.

"With rising geopolitical insecurity around the world, our customers need more advanced geospatial insights that can provide them with near real-time situational awareness over key areas of interest," said Anders Linder, General Manager, International Government at Maxar. "With four WorldView Legion satellites on orbit, including two in mid-inclination orbit, we offer the most 30 cm class tasking capacity from dawn to dusk. Combine that with the option to directly task SAR imagery through us, our customers can collect ground truth insights 24/7, giving them the transparency they need, when they need it."

Maxar's DAP allows defense, intelligence, and commercial users to integrate ground stations with its satellites, ensuring dedicated capacity and rapid delivery. Customers can initiate satellite tasking within 15 minutes of an imaging request and receive real-time data.

Additionally, Maxar's collaboration with Umbra grants customers direct tasking access to SAR satellites via Maxar's platforms. Umbra's SAR imagery, with resolutions of up to 25 cm, offers the capability to monitor areas at night and in adverse weather, complementing Maxar's very high-resolution electro-optical imagery.
