Under the agreement, U.S. government entities will have access to Lynk's sat2phone services, including SMS text messaging, emergency cell broadcast alerts, and LynkCast weather and information broadcasts, for the next five years, with an option to renew for an additional five years.
Margo Deckard, Lynk's co-founder and COO, commented, "Lynk will enable U.S. government agencies to access life-saving emergency communications to help the American people when terrestrial mobile networks are non-existent or have failed. DISA and U.S. Space Force will save lives through the Proliferated Low Earth Orbit (PLEO) contract vehicle." She added, "We are humbled to serve the people who risk their lives for the American people."
The U.S. government is a major consumer of commercial satellite communications, purchasing through DISA. In 2022, DISA initiated a PLEO satellite services solicitation for the first time, awarding Lynk as the sole provider of sat2phone connectivity among twenty companies.
Charles Miller, Lynk's co-founder and CEO, stated, "The U.S. Department of Defense has been field testing Lynk's technology for several years. We are deeply grateful for the trust that the DoD has given to Lynk with their decision to give us the first-ever sat2phone contract." He also noted, "This contract will enable the nearly three million men and women in the DoD to use the existing phone in their pockets to stay connected everywhere. No matter what happens."
