The Space and Aviation Institute (LAPAN) on Wednesday successfully launched a rocket in a try-out of series of nine it had built at a sea-side village in Garut district, West Java.

The first rocket was fired into the sky from a launching pad at Cilauteureum village at 8.00 am, somewhat later than scheduled.

About 20,000 local fishermen remained on the shore on Wednesday and would do the same on Thursday for safety's sake.

LAPAN was scheduled to launch four rockets on Wednesday and the remaining five on Thursday. (*)

Canadian Arrow has been granted permission to use Cape Rich located on the tip of Canadian Forces Meaford Range and Training Area for rocket test flights. Cape Rich is an ideal location for launch and recovery in the fresh waters of Georgian Bay.
