Goodrich, the prime contractor for the Operationally Responsive Space-1 (ORS-1) satellite, has announced that the pre-ship review was successfully completed last week and the satellite is being prepared for shipment to Wallops Island Flight Facility.

"Designing, building and delivering a fully operational satellite in a very short period of time is a tremendous achievement and a direct result of our partnership with the Air Force and DoD's ORS Office to achieve the common goal of supporting Central Command operations," said Andreas Nonnenmacher, Goodrich vice president.

The ORS-1 satellite is equipped with a sensor payload from Goodrich's SYERS-2 multi-spectral sensor, the primary imaging sensor on the U-2 reconnaissance plane.

The ORS-1 spacecraft includes a bus built for Goodrich by ATK Space Systems, based on the system they built for TacSat-3.

A Goodrich ground segment formats the image data from the payload sensor to be compatible with the downstream processing, exploitation, and dissemination infrastructure used for the operational SYERS-2 sensor.
