General Atomics Aeronautical Systems was awarded a contract worth more than $134 million for ground patrol stations for the U.S. Air Force. The deal, announced Friday by the Department of Defense, falls under the terms of a undefinitized contract for the production of block 30 ground control stations. The ground control stations from General Atomics support the U.S. drone program at military installations like Creech Air Force base outside Las Vegas and Beale Air Force base in California, in addition to military transport operations. Work on the contract will occur in Poway, Calif., and is expected to be completed by January 2020. Department of Defense aircraft procurement funds from fiscal years 2017 and 2016, coupled with research, development, test, and evaluation funds for a total of more than $52.9 million will be obligated to General Atomics at the time of award.
