Four people have died in Romania due to floods caused by torrential rains lashing central and eastern Europe, rescue services said on Saturday.

They were found in the southeastern region of Galati during a search and rescue operation, they said, adding: "Dozens of people were rescued from their homes in 19 areas of the country".

The rescue services released a video showing flooded houses in a village by the Danube river.

Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu was expected to visit the area later.

Since Thursday, Cyclone Boris has brought high winds and unusually fierce rains to parts of Austria, the Czech Republic, hungary, Romania abd Slovakia.
