Berlin, Germany (SPX) Jan 26, 2025

In 2022, the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) partnered with Kongsberg NanoAvionics to develop and launch two advanced nanosatellites-one 3U and one 6U. These satellites are equipped with cutting-edge remote sensing and Internet of Things (IoT) technologies that will provide real-time data from DEWA's infrastructure, allowing for more efficient monitoring and management of its electricity and water networks.

This initiative is part of DEWA's larger Space-D programme, a strategic effort aimed at transforming the planning, generation, transmission, and distribution of electricity and water through space technology. By incorporating nanosatellite technology into its operations, DEWA is taking a significant step toward modernizing utility management and reducing service disruptions.

The Space-D programme plays a crucial role in DEWA's digitalization journey. By utilizing IoT and remote sensing, DEWA enhances its ability to monitor assets and manage network operations more efficiently. Real-time data collection from the satellites will improve asset utilization, optimize resource allocation, and ultimately increase the overall efficiency of DEWA's grid systems.

In collaboration with NanoAvionics, DEWA aims to cut operational costs, support sustainability initiatives, and enhance the reliability of electricity and water services. By integrating these advanced technologies, DEWA is setting new standards in utility management and reinforcing its status as a global leader in innovation and sustainability.
