The launch occurred at 1:15 pm Beijing Time, marking the sixth satellite deployment for the Spacesail Constellation. Each satellite reached its designated orbit, further advancing the commercial low-orbit satellite network. This mission represents the 557th flight of the Long March rocket family.
Developed by the Shanghai Academy of Spaceflight Technology, the Long March 6 rocket employs liquid oxygen and kerosene as propellants, ensuring a non-toxic and environmentally friendly launch process. The rocket is capable of carrying payloads up to 6.5 tonnes to a 500-kilometer sun-synchronous orbit. The model is set for a demanding launch schedule in 2025, with more than ten missions planned.
The Spacesail Constellation is a significant project in China's efforts to build a commercial satellite network, with its development commencing on August 6, 2024.
China also launched a new test satellite for communication technology from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center in Sichuan province on Thursday. This satellite was deployed at 11:32 pm Beijing Time via a Long March-3B rocket, successfully reaching its planned orbit.
The communication technology satellite will be used for a range of applications, including satellite communications, radio and television broadcasting, and data transmission. It will also serve as a testing platform for validating related technologies. This marked the 558th mission of the Long March rocket series.
