Farnborough, England (SPX) May 14, 2006 The U.K. aerospace industry increased its first-quarter production by 18.5 percent compared with the same quarter last year, the Office for National Statistics reported. Overall, general manufacturing in the United Kingdom increased production by 0.7 percent during the first quarter, with transport equipment (including aerospace) leading with a 4.3 percent increase, the ONS report indicated. Within the transport equipment sector, aerospace led, improving production by 9.4 percent in the first quarter over the same period last year. "This is excellent news and reflects the hard work our industry is putting in to improving its processes throughout the supply chain,� said Sally Howes, director general of SBAC, the United Kingdom's national trade association representing the civil air transport, aerospace defense, homeland security and space sectors. SBAC, which encompasses the British Airports Group and the Industrial Space Committee, represents more than 2,600 companies. The organization assists members in developing new business globally, facilitating innovation and competitiveness and providing regulatory services in technical standards and accreditation.
