Quito, China (Xinhua) July 28, 2006 The fifth Americas Space Conference ended here on Friday with participants calling for the cooperation and the peaceful use of space technology. According to the Quito Declaration issued at the end of the meeting, participants reaffirmed their willingness to strengthen international and regional cooperation in developing space technology. The conference, which opened on Tuesday, drew the attendance of more than 200 representatives from 20 American nations and international organizations such as the United Nations and the European Union. At the meeting, the attendees discussed the relationship between space technology and sustainable growth, and the use of space technology to develop long-distance medical care service, to protect environment and world heritages, and to prevent and mitigate natural disasters.
