Herschel's HIFI instrument was especially designed to follow the water trail in the Universe over a wide range of scales, from the Solar System out to extragalactic sources. Japan's controversial "fast-breeder" nuclear reactor reached criticality - the point when a nuclear chain reaction becomes self-sustaining - on Saturday following 14 years of suspension.
