Efficient Channel Coding And Telesat Demonstrate World First For DVB-S2
Efficient Channel Coding (ECC) has presented live demonstrations of the DVB- S2 based iSatLite broadband interactive satellite communication system during Satellite 2005 in Washington, D.C. Using Telesat Canada's Anik F2 spacecraft and the ECC iSatLite system, live voice, video and high-speed data connectivity was available throughout the show. ISatLite is a new broadband communications system based on the DVB-S2 standard. The complete iSatLite system provides unprecedented bandwidth efficiency and includes many advanced features. Highlights include VoIP header compression, lossless data compression, advanced QoS, and integrated terminal features such as routing and TCP/IP acceleration. ISatLite is available today and being deployed in pilot networks worldwide. "The power of DVB-S2 becomes a reality by using iSatLite," said Mark Dale, Vice President of Business Development at ECC. "A live demonstration that simultaneously provides high-speed Internet access, voice, and high-resolution video via satellite gives our potential customers a chance to experience the iSatLite system benefits firsthand." Providing complete coverage to North America, Anik F2 is one of the world's largest commercial communications satellites. As the first satellite in history to fully commercialize the Ka frequency band, the Anik F2's breakthrough in communications technology delivers cost-effective, two-way broadband services. Launched by Telesat in July of 2004, the satellite provides opportunity for improvements in the delivery of commercial and consumer services. "Telesat is pleased to work with ECC on the continued development of DVB- S2," said Paul Bush, Telesat's Vice President of Broadcasting and Corporate Development.
