The Spescom Nuclear Advisory Council is composed of experts from across the nuclear market including customers and industry representatives.

Founding members include Michael Stout, Chairman of the Configuration Management Benchmarking Group (CMBG) Steering Committee - an industry association comprised of leading practitioners in configuration management as well as senior IT executives from existing customers and partners including Entergy Corp.; Constellation Energy Group Inc.; Florida Power & Light; Ameren; and Aker Kvaerner.

Additional members will be invited to join the Council in due course. Spescom Software will be represented by senior executives and product managers. The first meeting of the council will be held in San Diego during July 2004.

The Spescom Nuclear Advisory Council will examine issues and topics of interest to the industry, especially those related to configuration, change, asset and content management. This will include providing guidance on future product requirements and packaging, market positioning, industry alliances and networking.

"The nuclear industry is continually looking at ways to improve performance and safety standards," commented Michael Stout, Chairman of the Configuration Management Benchmarking Group (CMBG) Steering Committee.

"In this regard, the Nuclear Energy Institute (NEI) has published a Standard Nuclear Performance Model (SNPM) that defines the best practices for operating a nuclear plant. One of the core processes in terms of this model is that of Configuration Management - a process that has not yet been effectively addressed by all in the industry."

"Various new standards have evolved over the past few years to assist nuclear plant operators to improve their configuration management processes including the ANSI/NIRMA CM1.0-2000 "Guidelines for the Configuration Management of Nuclear Facilities" and the new DOE-STD-1073-2003 "DOE Standard Configuration Management".

Also INPO-929 "Configuration Control Process Description" is scheduled to be revised this year in order to address all aspects of configuration management."
