DEXAR Multimedia ve Telecommunications, Inc., the telecommunications subsidiary of ZORLU-VESTEL Group of Turkey, announced today that it began offering Hughes Network Systems' Direcway broadband by satellite services from its Teleport in Istanbul in early September 2003. DEXAR is providing high-speed Internet access to consumers, SOHOs, and enterprises throughout Turkey, Europe, and many parts of the Middle East. In addition, DEXAR will be developing distance-learning applications to be offered over the Direcway system. "We started using technology from Hughes Network Systems (HNS) with our investment in 1998 in SCPC (single channel per carrier), TRES broadband on demand, TES Quantum rural telephony, PES enterprise VSAT networks, and DirecPC one-way broadband satellite Internet access. We have continued with Direcway because HNS is a technology innovator and market leader in broadband satellite and is a name you can trust," said Ms. Zuhal Ertan, general manager of DEXAR. "Direcway is the only two-way service that offers broadband via satellite on a flat rate basis and at affordable prices. Direcway allows us to be among the first telecom operator companies to offer two-way, high-speed satellite services to our geographically dispersed customer base. "Direcway enables us to provide cutting-edge, value-added services to our customers, regardless of distance or terrain. We are confident that Direcway will make it possible for DEXAR to expand our service offerings and make Internet access available to everyone in our country and in the region," Ms. Ertan continued. "We have a long standing relationship with DEXAR and are pleased they decided to further that relationship by offering Direcway services to customers in their region. It is a testament to the quality of our products and customer support that they chose Direcway. We look forward to continued expansion of Direcway broadband satellite throughout the region," said Ali Mohadjer, vice president, International, at HNS.
