Stratos And Inmarsat Announce Tier One BGAN Partnership

Stratos Global recently announced that it has finalized an agreement with Inmarsat to become a tier one Distribution Partner for Inmarsat's next-generation Broadband Global Area Network (BGAN) mobile satellite service, scheduled for commercial launch in late 2005.

Using smaller, lighter-weight and lower-cost satellite terminals about the size of small laptop PCs, BGAN will enable users to access e-mail, corporate networks and the Internet, transfer files, stream video, and make telephone calls, from virtually anywhere on the planet at speeds up to 492 kbps - more than three times as fast as current-generation mobile satellite services.

BGAN will operate using a constellation of the most powerful communications satellites ever constructed, the first of which was successfully launched in March 2005.

These satellites have 16 times the power and capacity of the current-generation Inmarsat satellite constellation, providing significantly enhanced performance and capability for users.

As a tier one BGAN Distribution Partner, Stratos is working directly with Inmarsat to prepare business systems, assess market opportunities, and develop a suite of value-added services to provide end users and distributors with maximum flexibility in purchasing and utilizing BGAN service to meet their communications needs.
