GeoHelix GPS Antenna To Boost Alltigo's Asset Management Solution

GeoHelix GPS antennas from Sarantel offer significant benefits over patch antennas for portable, handheld and vehicle-mounted GPS-based products.
Wellingborough UK (SPX) Dec 17, 2004
Sarantel, the leading global innovator in the design and manufacture of proprietary miniature antennas for portable and wireless devices, has been chosen by Alltigo to provide its GeoHelix Global Positioning System (GPS) antenna in a new Assisted-GPS (A-GPS) enabled asset management tagging solution.

The Alltigo LT100 allows businesses to monitor and track assets by using GPS to identify the location of the tag and mobile network infrastructure to forward that location information to a wireless device or location-enabled enterprise system.

The Sarantel antenna was selected because of its superior GPS reception, which boosts performance and enables the LT100 to deliver highly accurate location positioning.

Most existing asset management solutions suffer from traditional GPS limitations whereby the satellite signal can be detected only if there is a clear view to the sky. This means that businesses are unable to consistently identify the location of its staff, vehicles or assets.

The LT100 addresses this issue with an embedded A-GPS system supported by unique AAGPS (Adaptive Assisted GPS) functionality and the Sarantel antenna, enabling it to locate its position from inside buildings, urban canyons or even under heavy foliage.

Besides obtaining the device's current location, the user is able to obtain previous locations from a history log, effectively tracking the continuous movement of assets. A Java application, Location Tag Monitor, is used to monitor and track the location tags.

Miroslav Bosnjakovic, Product Director of Alltigo, says: "There is an incredible demand for location tag technology in business/personal use and with GPS as the most accurate positioning application currently available, the sky is the limit, literally.

"But receiving a GPS signal in urban areas and indoors is still difficult and a barrier to the adoption of GPS enabled wireless solutions. By using A-GPS in tandem with Sarantel's antenna, which works in every direction and in close proximity to the body, we have been able to readily overcome these issues."

In response, David Wither, CEO of Sarantel adds: "The market's appetite for location based services and technology has grown significantly over the last year and we have seen a substantial increase in the demand for our antenna technology.

"It is a very exciting time for the market and we see our technology becoming the defacto standard for large sections of the market as GPS proliferates into more demanding applications."
