Nvidia CEO to meet Trump on Friday
Washington, Jan 31 (AFP) Jan 31, 2025
Jensen Huang, CEO of AI chip giant Nvidia, will meet with President Donald Trump at the White House on Friday, according to a source familiar with the matter who spoke with AFP.

Huang, whose company has become one of the world's most valuable firms on the back of the AI frenzy, was notably absent from Trump's inauguration.

Mark Zuckerberg, Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk, who is a close advisor and major Trump donor, were given a central place during ceremonies and events, and contributed to the president's inauguration fund.

The White House meeting, the first for Huang and Trump, will focus on all aspects of artificial intelligence deployment, according to the source, who was not authorized to speak on the record about the matter.

High-end versions of Nvidia's chips face US export restrictions to China, part of Washington's efforts to slow its Asian adversary's advancement in the strategic technology.

The policy's effectiveness came under scrutiny this week when Chinese startup DeepSeek achieved widespread adoption of its latest AI technology, developed using unrestricted lower-powered Nvidia chips.

The news triggered Nvidia's stock to plummet, wiping nearly $600 million in market value -- Wall Street's largest single-day loss ever.

A Nvidia spokesman declined to comment on the meeting and the White House did not immediately reply to a request for comment.

It was not known whether Musk would attend the Friday meeting.

The Tesla CEO, who heads the administration's Department of Government Efficiency, has recently participated in Trump's meetings with tech leaders including Amazon's Bezos and Google's Sundar Pichai.
