Mexico, Argentina sign space cooperation agreement

Argentina is one of the most experienced Latin American countries in space technology.

The governments of Mexico and Argentina have signed a space cooperation agreement for peaceful purposes, the Mexican Ministry of Communications and Transport (SCT) said Sunday.

The ministry said this agreement was made during Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto's recent state visit to Argentina.

The agreement will enable the existing links between the two countries to be strengthened while promoting the creation of new mechanisms, and supporting exchange between Argentine and Mexican research groups, the SCT said through a press release.

The agreement was signed by Javier Mendieta Jimenez, General Director of the Mexican Space Agency, and Lino Baranao, Argentine Minister of Science, Technology and Productive Innovation.

Mendieta welcomed the new possibilities the signed document could bring to the two sides. He added that having begun its space activities in 1961, Argentina is one of the most experienced Latin American countries in space technology.
