Lockheed Martin producing additionl targeting systems for Army

A new production contract for targeting and piloting systems for U.S. Army and Indonesian operated AH-64 helicopters has been given to Lockheed Martin.

The company said the award for Lot 9 production of Modernized Target Acquisition Designation Sight/Pilot Night Vision Sensors, or M-TADS/PNVS, carries a value of $80.6 million.

Eight targeting and pilotage systems and spares for the U.S. Army and nine systems for the Indonesian Army will be produced through July of 2016 at company facilities in Orlando and Ocala, Fla.

"This production lot directly supports the AH-64E production line," said Lt. Col. Steven Van Riper, U.S. Army Apache Sensors product manager. "Being able to 'bundle' our procurement with one of our Foreign Military Sales partners increases our buying power."

"The M-TADS/PNVS system is helping save lives of our U.S. and allied troops by giving Apache pilots the ability to engage targets accurately, and by improving situational awareness," added Matt Hoffman, M-TADS/PNVS program director at Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control.

M-TADS/PNVS enables long-range, precision engagement and piloting capabilities in all weather environments. It was first brought into use in 2005 and since then more than 1,200 systems and spares have been delivered to the U.S. Army and international customers.
