Harris Wins Subcontract For Joint Environmental Toolkit As Part Of Raytheon Team
Omaha NB (SPX) May 22, 2006 Harris Corporation has been awarded a $3.7 million subcontract under Phase 2 of the U.S. Air Force Joint Environmental Toolkit (JET) program as part of the Raytheon Company JET Enterprise Team. Harris previously was awarded a $1.2 million subcontract under Phase 1 of the JET program, bringing the total value of the subcontract to Harris to $4.9 million with a potential value of $23.9 million over 54 months. The immediate Phase 2 contract award to the Raytheon team is valued at $9.3 million, with a total potential value of $71 million over 54 months. "Harris has been supporting the Air Force weather community for many years, so we are particularly pleased to be moving into the second phase of this program as part of the Raytheon team," said Phil Heacock, vice president of the Space and Mission Support business area of Harris Technical Services Corporation. "JET is a very important weather forecasting initiative that will ultimately enhance battlespace awareness for the warfighter and play a key role in network-centric warfare." Under terms of the JET Phase 2 subcontract, Harris is providing systems engineering, software development, testing, installation, and training services. The objective of JET is to replace legacy weather systems with a single, integrated capability providing tailored weather products to users, interfacing with command and control systems, and implementing the "to be" architecture for the Air Force Weather Weapon System (AFWWS). The program will employ evolutionary acquisition concepts that deliver a scalable hardware and software system for providing commonality and meeting U.S. Air Force and Army needs for weather forecast generation, meteorological watch, and observation management, with increased accuracy and decreased latency. Harris Technical Services Corporation is a wholly owned subsidiary of Harris Corporation, serving the information technology services marketplace. HTSC provides world-class, cost-effective operation, maintenance, engineering, and technical support services to the U.S. government, prime contractors, and other Harris divisions.
